How to cook the perfect steak

Most would say the perfect steak is medium rare, but some like it a little more or less red. We always recommend using a meat thermometer to determine the readiness of your steak.

The most important elements to cooking steak are heat and preparation. Steak should be removed from the fridge around 30 minutes before cooking, at which time you apply a simple rub to enhance flavour.

You can purchase steak rubs or you can make your own with anything from salt and pepper to more flavoursome spices like paprika and even coffee. All it takes to apply a rub is to spread a little olive oil over the steak then season liberally with the rub on both sides.

You will need to get the pan nice and hot to ensure an even sear so preheat it for a few minutes before adding the steak. Once the steak is in the pan leave it alone for a few minutes to develop a nice sear then flip to sear the other side. Cook the steak until it has reached the desired doneness then remove it from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving!
